Preparation

Passing the qualification test

Most platforms test you before giving you paid work. Knowing the format helps you show what you can actually do.

Common formats

A subject quiz in your field. A writing sample. A short set of real-looking tasks, such as ranking two answers and explaining why. A recorded or live interview, sometimes with an AI interviewer. Coding roles often add a timed coding task.

Read the guideline twice

Many people fail because they answer the way they would at work, not the way the guideline asks. If it says to cite the exact sentence that is wrong, do that every time. If it gives a scoring scale, use its words.

Explain, don’t just pick

When you choose the better answer, say why in one or two specific sentences: the fact that is wrong, the step that is missing, the instruction it ignored. Vague reasons such as “more helpful” score poorly.

Practical setup

Use a laptop, a stable connection and a quiet room. Check the time limit and whether you can retake. Do not use AI tools unless the test says you may; many platforms detect it and some ban the account.

After you pass

Passing usually puts you in a pool, not straight into paid tasks. Projects open and close, so check the dashboard and your email regularly, and apply to more than one platform.
