<p>AfterQuery builds the expert evaluation data that frontier AI labs use to measure and improve their models. We're hiring historians as contractors to author and grade the source analysis and historical reasoning scenarios those evaluations run on.</p>

<p><strong>What you'll actually do</strong></p>

<ul>

<li>Author historical scenarios that test real method, from source criticism to competing causal explanations.</li>

<li>Write reference answers with the evidentiary reasoning behind each interpretation, what the sources support and what they cannot.</li>

<li>Grade model output for factual accuracy, context, and historiographical awareness.</li>

<li>Flag narratives that read confident but flatten evidence, invent causation, or project the present onto the past.</li>

Responsibilities

• Author historical scenarios that test source analysis and causal reasoning
• Write reference answers with the evidentiary reasoning behind each interpretation
• Grade model output for factual accuracy, context, and historiographical awareness
• Flag narratives that read confident but flatten evidence or invent causation

Required qualifications

• Advanced degree in history or a closely related field
• 2+ years of teaching, research, archival, or published historical work
• Depth in a period or region with real primary source experience
• Clear written English for documenting historical reasoning
• Able to commit at least 10 hours per week

Preferred qualifications

• PhD and peer reviewed publications
• Archival research or public history experience
• Reading knowledge of relevant research languages
