<p>AfterQuery builds the expert evaluation data that frontier AI labs use to measure and improve their models. We're hiring certified court interpreters as contractors to author and grade the legal interpretation scenarios those evaluations run on.</p>

<p><strong>What you'll actually do</strong></p>

<ul><li>Author realistic courtroom and legal interpretation scenarios, from arraignments to depositions to attorney client meetings</li><li>Write reference interpretations with the terminology and register decisions behind each rendering</li><li>Grade model output for accuracy, completeness, and legal register in both languages</li><li>Flag renderings that read fluent but change the legal meaning</li></ul>

<p><strong>Who this is for</strong></p>

<ul><li>State or federally certified court interpreters, or holders of an equivalent credential</li><li>Working interpreters with at least 2 years in legal settings</li><li>Interpreters with full professional command of legal terminology in both working languages</li><li>Clear writers who can document the reasoning behind an interpretation decision</li></ul>

<p><strong>Contract and pay</strong></p>

<ul><li><strong>$60 to $100/hr</strong>, paid weekly via Stripe. Your rate is set from your experience, not negotiated down after you start.</li><li>Fully remote, fully async. No fixed hours.</li><li>Minimum 10 hours per week, no maximum. Scale up or down week to week.</li><li>No screen recording, no keystroke monitoring, no idle timers.</li><li>Independent contractor. Ongoing project work rather than single task batches.</li></ul>

Responsibilities

• Author realistic courtroom and legal interpretation scenarios
• Write reference interpretations with the reasoning behind each terminology choice
• Grade model output for accuracy, register, and legal meaning
• Flag renderings that read fluent but change the legal meaning

Required qualifications

• State or federal court interpreter certification, or an equivalent credential
• 2+ years of interpreting in legal settings such as courtrooms, depositions, or attorney client meetings
• Full professional command of legal terminology in both working languages
• Clear written English for documenting interpretation decisions
• Able to commit at least 10 hours per week

Preferred qualifications

• Federal court certification or NAJIT membership
• Experience across depositions, arraignments, and trial interpreting
• Sight translation and legal document translation experience
