Pay
How pay works: hourly, per task and getting paid
The rate on a listing is only part of the picture. Here is what to check before you start.
Hourly versus per task
Hourly projects usually track your time or set an expected time per task. Per-task projects pay a fixed amount per item, so your real hourly rate depends on how fast you work while staying accurate. Studies often pay a fixed amount per session.
What is paid and what is not
Assessments, onboarding and reading guidelines are often unpaid. Some platforms pay for training tasks; others do not. Ask, or read the project brief.
Work is not guaranteed
An hourly rate does not mean a full week of work. Tasks can pause without notice when a project ends or a quota fills. Treat this as flexible income unless a contract says otherwise.
Getting paid
Platforms pay through bank transfer or payment services, weekly or monthly. You are usually an independent contractor, so tax is your responsibility. Check which currencies and countries are supported before you put in hours.
Rates differ by country and expertise
The same project can pay differently by location, and specialist roles pay much more than general ones. The pay shown on Remotefolio is taken from the listing; confirm it on the platform before you apply.
